Got the Job and Moving to NYC From Abroad? Here’s What to Expect With Pinpointe
TL;DR
International relocations to NYC add extra hurdles: no U.S. credit, no SSN yet, and no local bank account for deposits. At Pinpointe Group, we’ve handled it all through our NYCbound program. Here’s what to expect.
Step 1: Kickoff & Needs Assessment
We’ll map out your timing, family needs, and office commute to create a search strategy tailored to international arrivals.
Step 2: Application Prep Without U.S. Credit
NYC landlords typically require 40× rent in annual income, a 700+ credit score, and an SSN — things most international hires don’t have. We solve this with:
- Employer contracts and HR letters
- Personal guarantors (80× rent, strong U.S. credit)
- Third-party guarantor services
Step 3: Apartment Search & Tours
We can get you settled before you arrive with virtual tours and digital lease execution.
If you have temporary housing, we’ll coordinate tours once you land and help you move into long-term housing quickly.
Step 4: Lease Execution & Payments
If you don’t yet have a U.S. bank account, you can pay Pinpointe directly and we’ll pay the landlord on your behalf. Once your SSN and account are set up, you transition to direct payments.
Settling In
While leases and payments are happening, we also guide you through:
- Applying for an SSN (we know the offices, best times, and required documents)
- Opening a bank account with just a passport, then updating it once your SSN arrives
- Securing a state ID or IDNYC so you don’t carry your passport everywhere
Why It Matters
Moving across borders to New York is complex. NYCbound makes it simple: you’ll have a home lined up, a path to banking and ID, and one less thing to distract you from starting your new role.
