The Real New York: Unfiltered Real Estate Insights from Pinpointe Group
Welcome to the raw, unvarnished world of New York City real estate—where every apartment hunt is an adventure, and brokers actually care about more than just closing a deal.
Who Are We? Meet the Voices Behind Pinpointe Group
Rachel and Josh are the co-founders of Pinpointe Group, a boutique real estate brokerage based in Manhattan. But they’re not your run-of-the-mill real estate agents. Their approach is refreshingly different: committed to cutting through the industry’s typical smoke and mirrors and providing clients with genuine, honest guidance. As they put it, they’re here to tell you “what your broker never told you.”
Their mission stems from a deep frustration with the real estate industry’s tendency to treat clients like mere transactions. “In this industry, there’s a lot of misinformation,” Rachel explains. “People just trying to make a buck. That’s why brokers get such a bad reputation—they treat people like dollar signs.”
How We Got Here: Two Unconventional Paths to Real Estate
Josh’s Journey: From Side Hustle to Passion
Josh’s path to real estate wasn’t a straight line. He went back to school later in life and needed flexible work that could support his educational goals. His journey began with a Craigslist ad—remember those?—where he started as an assistant. In just his first few weeks, he made $1,500 and quickly realized that real estate offered more potential than his original plan of going to law school.
What started as a way to make ends meet soon became a true calling. Josh discovered he was a natural at hustling in New York’s competitive market. He describes real estate as his ultimate professional match. “I was meant to be a hustler,” he says. “Being a real estate agent in New York City is the ultimate hustle.” Despite the challenges—and there are many that make him want to cry some days—he finds the work incredibly rewarding. “There’s nothing like making a deal,” he shares, highlighting the emotional satisfaction of his work.
Rachel’s Unconventional Path
Rachel’s journey is a testament to non-traditional success. A high school dropout who went on to earn a master’s degree, she originally hails from Miami and moved to New York eight and a half years ago. Her real estate career began as an operations manager for a startup brokerage, where she learned the ins and outs of running a brokerage from the ground up.
After obtaining her real estate license in New York (and even one in Georgia, just because), Rachel discovered her true passion after trying various jobs. “If you don’t like high school, it’s cool. It’s not for everybody. You can still make your way,” she says. Her move from Miami was driven by a desire to escape the “flash, no cash” culture and embrace New York’s authentic hustle.

Every client is treated like family, and they provide real, practical insights about New York City living. There’s no sugarcoating the challenges of finding an apartment in this city.
The New York Real Estate Reality Check
What Newcomers Need to Know
Pinpointe Group specializes in helping international relocators understand the true New York experience. “People coming from London or Luxembourg have this idea of what New York City is,” Rachel explains. “When you come here, it’s very, very different.” They prepare clients for the realities of city living, helping them understand that in-unit washer/dryers are a luxury, rentals are expensive, and rental requirements can be strict.
The team guides newcomers through the unique challenges of New York living, from explaining the importance of credit and rental history to navigating the city’s unique living conditions like walk-up apartments and the lack of air conditioning. Their goal is to set realistic expectations and help clients truly understand what life in New York entails.
The New York Hustle
Josh describes New York as “black ops training” for everyday people. It’s a city where everyone is struggling together, regardless of their income. “We’re all sweating on that subway,” Rachel laughs. “Even people doing really well are going through the same challenges.”
This shared experience of hustle and resilience is what makes New York special. It’s not about looking good or pretending to have made it—it’s about genuinely working hard and supporting each other through the city’s challenges.
